Rafael “Andy Vega” has been Chief Science Officer for J.J. Mauget since 2021 but has been helping them with research projects for over ten years. He got his bachelor’s degree in engineering at Northeastern University in Boston and went on to get a Doctorate in Plant Medicine (D.P.M.) at the University of Florida. The DPM program is a multi-disciplinary program specializing in Entomology, Plant Pathology along with Plant, Soil, and Weed sciences. Since he graduated in 2012, he has been working with New England Fruit Consultants as a research manager and crop consultant for the tree fruit industry in Eastern NY and New England. Andy developed his interest in plant sciences working as a landscaper and later as a tropical horticulturist at Zoo New England in Boston. In addition to his work with New England Fruit Consultants and J.J. Mauget, he has volunteered for his town’s tree advisory committee. You might find him around town working in his garden or kicking a soccer ball around.
